Modi calls Vadodara his 'karma bhoomi' as he files nomination

Modi calls Vadodara his 'karma bhoomi' as he files nomination:
VADODARA: Reaffirming his pro-development and good governance campaign, Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad, erstwhile Baroda state's most popular king, during his visit to Vadodara on Wednesday, from where he filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha election.

Sayajirao was known as a visionary ruler and an efficient administrator who took bold reformist steps and changed the face of erstwhile Baroda state.

Modi said on Wednesday that he benefited from Sayajirao's visionary governance as he was born in Vadnagar that was part of Baroda state.

Modi also reaffirmed his roots with Vadodara by recalling the days he spent here as an RSS pracharak. "I was born in Vadnagar that was a part of the Gaekwad state. Sayajirao Gaekwad was known for his good governance and he focused mainly on three things - girls' education, water supply and libraries. I have benefited from his good governance as I completed my primary school education from Vadnagar," Modi said after filing his nomination.

"Sayajirao's book 'Minor Hints' provides inspiration for good administrations. Whenever any IAS officer joins services, I recommend to the person to read this book and take inspiration for good governance," Modi said.

He added that he was thankful to his party to give him a chance for contesting from Vadodara. In fact, Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad, wife of Sayajirao's great grandson late Ranjitsinh, was one of the proposers for Modi's nomination for Vadodara Lok Sabha seat.

"I worked in Saurashtra, north Gujarat and now my party has allowed me to represent central Gujarat. Vadodara has been my 'karma bhoomi' and now I have come here again as a public representative. I am thankful to residents of Vadodara who gave me so much respect and gave me a grand welcome," Modi added. He appealed to the citizens to celebrate the elections as a festival on April 30 and come out in large numbers to vote for BJP.
