Modi's hi-tech poll chariots await EC nod

Modi's hi-tech poll chariots await EC nAGRA: Around five dozen hi-tech Modi 'raths', which are Wi-Fi and GPS-enabled and equipped with huge TV screens, to be used for election campaigning are gathering dust as Election Commission is yet to give the BJP permission to use them.

The 'raths' carrying teleimages of Narendra Modi are equipped to show a 20-minute documentary of the BJP prime ministerial candidate, followed by brief speeches of party leaders.

The delay in EC's permission is making the BJP nervous as the vehicles sit around mills and outskirts of villages gathering dust. "We are trying for permission and hope that the EC will not ruin our biggest mass-contact programme," BJP leader Purushottam Khandelwal said.

The EC, meanwhile, is not ready to give permission before it checks the contents of the 'Modi show'. "The raths will be allowed to run in the city only after the examination of the content. If the content is not as per the standards, we will not allow them to run," ADM (city) Prem Prakash Pal said.

Khandelwal, however, pointed out that the raths were already operating in other districts. Some 450 'Modi raths' were sent to Lucknow in the second week of March. od
